NRMA - ACT Road Safety Trust - Information About Grants

The NRMA - ACT Road Safety Trust was formally established in 1992 as a statutory public charitable trust under the NRMA - ACT Road Safety Trust 1992.

Funding

The original funding of $10 million was provided by NRMA Insurance and represented surplus third party insurance premiums arising from lower than expected insurance claims during the 1980's. Investment income earned in advance of project expenditure increased this original sum to $12 million. These funds were all committed to road safety related projects by 30 June 1998.

The current source of funding for the Trust is the $2.00 Road Safety Contribution, which is raised in association with ACT motor vehicle registration fees and is matched by NRMA Insurance. Funds are distributed via an annual grant program.

Objectives of the Trust

The Trust's principal objective is to enhance road safety for the benefit of the ACT road-using community.
